On June 24, Porotech, a subsidiary of the University of Cambridge and a developer of GaN Micro LED materials, announced that it had raised £3 million (approximately RMB 26.9 million) in funding, which will be used to promote the development of its next stage of Micro LED production technology.

According to reports, Porotech has developed a new type of porous GaN semiconductor material and claims that the new material has improved performance compared to existing materials. Based on Porotech's unique process, R/G/B LEDs can be produced using the same GaN material and integrated on a single wafer.

Although Porotech was spun off from Cambridge University in January 2020, in the past 10 months, the company has generated revenue and has jointly developed next-generation display technologies with some global manufacturers.
In the early days of the company's establishment, Porotech has received a seed round of 1.5 million pounds. The £3 million fund raised this time will be used to expand its new process to integrate InGaN RGB Micro LEDs to develop full-color micro-displays.
